Sandy beaches, rugged cliffs, fertile flatlands and majestic mountains… vineyards, olive and almond groves… pretty fishing villages, mountain enclaves, modern cities, historical architecture… Mallorca offers a spectacular variety of landscapes and scenery, both natural and man-made – and so many ways to explore it all!We charter a yacht and cruise the coastline, discovering the apparently endless selection of calas and playas – the little bays and beaches that scallop the edges of this, the largest of the Balearic Islands. Casting anchor in a secluded cove, we dive, swim and snorkel in the clear, warm waters of the Med, working up an appetite for the gastronomic delights the chef is preparing for us in the ship’s well-equipped galley.

Driving a classic car along the roads that wind around the coast and up into the mountains, we forge our own path of discovery, stopping as the whim takes us, creating unforgettable memories of this beautiful Spanish island. We explore the natural wonderland on foot, too, hiking and climbing, or abseiling down to inaccessible caves, boldly going where few have ventured before us.

There are still other perspectives to be seen, though, and the island spreads out beneath us as we take a helicopter ride to one of the highest peaks of the Sierra de Tramuntana where a mountain-top picnic awaits; with our senses sharpened by the mountain air, bright sunlight sparkling on the Mediterranean down below, we sample the delicacies laid before us.

Dreams of light in Norway

The still surface of the fjord reflects a scene of brightly coloured houses. A thousand rivers water these lands, beautiful, unknown, unspoiled and endless. This is no real world: here we plumb the ultimate mysteries of beauty, explore a multi-faceted fantasy of water, discover an unblemished haven replete with wonders.

Here the mountains and the sea are a perfect couple, their union blessed by the light of the midnight sun, when the gods of Asgard were still young, their wedding night celebrated anew whenever the aurora spreads her shimmering robe across the heavens.

We can never meet in person, but you can still get to know me and your family as you tread our native landscapes, exploring ancient villages and modern cities, as you discover our country’s history and heritage, view its monuments, and savour its renowned cuisine.

In this land, our roots – mine and yours – sink deep into the earth, and here an extraordinary experience awaits you: an incredible opportunity to discover your origins. Trace the footsteps of your grandparents, tread the streets your great grandparents trod, follow the paths of their parents…

You’ll sense us in each medieval tower; the old stone houses hold our memory. Once upon a time, the Spanish monarchs – first the Habsburgs, and later the Bourbons – would spend each season of the year in a different palace. Today, these palaces bear witness to the history and inheritance of a great empire. Plenia invite you on a journey of discovery, not simply of these royal residences, but also the gardens where kings and queens walked, the restaurants where they ate, and the hotels and mansions they had built in and around the country’s capital. The four-day trip starts in Madrid itself: here we will visit the Royal Palace, the wonderful historical district of Madrid de los Austrias, the Prado Museum, and some of the most interesting restaurants and taverns of the city that were frequented by royalty in days gone by. To the north of the city, in the province of Segovia, our journey will take us to the palaces of La Granja de San Ildefonso and Riofrio, and the Fábrica de Cristal – the Royal Glass factory. We’ll also visit the monastery at El Escorial, and travel on the classic ‘Strawberry Train’ – one of the oldest railway lines in Spain – to Aranjuez, just south of Madrid, where we’ll visit the Palace and sample the local produce. In the capital we will also have a chance to stroll around the Retiro Park – the former royal gardens in the centre of the city, and to stay at one of the most emblematic hotels in Spain, The Ritz or the Westin Palace, both built at the behest of Alfonso XIII and witnesses to some of the most important events in the country’s history.
